THE EFFORTLESS PATH - Leading from the Center
An Exploration into Integrated Leadership
Great leaders inspire the people around them, are highly skilled in change management and are authentic.
As women in leadership we need to be able to do more than that: We need to straddle the gap between projecting authority and our own femininity at the same time. We want to be caring partners, mothers or wives and pursue a time-consuming career. We must resolve our need to constantly prove our self-worth on one hand, and radiate confidence and our inner power on the other.
These capacities demand a high level of lasting vitality and energy. To be able to access these internal powers day after day, we have to find - and master - a way to become more "centered" and be comfortable with ourselves. This will enable us to do things without effort, at the correct time and with the right amount of energy. In other words, we will find our own Effortless Path.
The Effortless Path means action which comes from a sense of connection with the people and circumstances around us.
It is spontaneous and effortless. Like water, it doesn't run faster or slower than necessary and stands still whenever possible. It takes the path of least resistance. It is part of everything and nourishes all. It constantly renews itself and never tires. It has a clear intention.
The Effortless Path W.I.L. Power seminar uses a unique approach in leadership training, combining the principles of Aikido, experiential learning, self discovery and group discussion to promote:
|
|
• |
self-awareness |
|
• |
uncovering and accessing our internal powers and |
|
• |
learning how to project these powers to lead others |
|
We have chosen to incorporate the best of leadership development tools with the philosophy and basic practice of one of the most popular Japanese Martial Arts: Aikido.
Aikido means the Way (do) of Harmony (ai) with the Energy of the Universe (ki). It is a martial art of self-perception and development through the being and actions of the other.
Letting the other express himself and do what he wants, we enter in harmony with his energy. We then use this energy for our own goals through guiding the other without creating resistance or pain.
To reach this state of harmony we first need to have a higher awareness of ourselves: of our vision, mission, strengths, behaviors, belief systems and our perceptions. We have to be alert, yet at the same time relaxed and open to all that can happen.
We learn to balance ourselves between action and non-action, between speed and slowness. We discover that giving up control while being aware of our intention gives us more freedom.
These same principles we will apply in the context of Women in Leadership:
The program puts you into contact with yourselves and raises your self-awareness. It supports you in developing instruments and attitudes to become a conscious woman leader, who is attentive to the flow of events, people, and yourself.
Women who are interested do not need to be physically active, nor have experience in Aikido or Oriental philosophies.
The only prerequisites are the wish to grow, to share one's experiences and to experiment together with the other participants.
